Toby Keith is celebrating the opening of the OK Kids Korral. "Tulsa World" says the country star was on hand for Thursday's official launch ceremony for the facility, which he spearheaded to help families with children battling cancer.
Keith spoke at the event, saying the goal was to create a space that didn't "look like a hospital." He explains that everyone involved "wanted it to be as fun as possible," describing it as "like a trip into Chuck E. Cheese's or Disney World."
While the OK Kids Korral features a game room, a theater, and different play areas, it also has quiet spaces, including a reflection room and a chapel. The 25-thousand-foot facility also includes a kitchen, laundry room, and suites where parents and other family members can stay while their child is in the hospital.
The OK Kids Korral is on the Oklahoma Health Center Campus, located across the street from the University of Oklahoma's OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
